:: The One with Why BAT is not a Top Company to Work for in Malaysia ::
I didn’t really want to post this particular matter, but after reading Grace’s recent post on “Top Companies to Work for in Malaysia”, there was a need to.

So I was with DarleneGerald at the previous Career & Training Fair in Mid Valley Megamall. It was packed like sardines, and lack of directions inside got the both of us lost. The fair was disappointing for every reason possible and it just got worse when I passed by British American Tobacco’s booth.

BAT Malaysia is supposed to be a huge company that offers great salary and perks for its Management personnel. Passing by their booth, I got a bit gatal and asked this young chap there.
BAT : Hello Mr! Are you interested in a career with BAT Malaysia?
Kevin : Yea! I’m from Civil Engineering background. So where can I fit in in BAT Malaysia?
BAT : Errr….WHAT IS CIVIL ENGINEERING?

Ahahahahahah!!
I have a fren there, she said work there is very stressful oo. 24-7 sure got ppl smoke.
The gud news is……well, actually it depends, may also be a bad news to some, she gets 3 free 20s of any BAT brand, so she always take Kent, lol.
Later this year, price of cigarettes gonna naik probably up to RM10++, most likely when Budget 2009 is unveiled. According to her la……
Harga barang slalu naik, zzzzz -.-………

grace : entahlah. stupid bugger.
tokmoh : actually i hate smokers alot. i still dont understand why they pay to kill themselves.
get free 20s cant sell them off meh?

April 15th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
i hate smokers too…HaHa
shldn work for any tobacco companies…tats my principle..
April 15th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
haha….. Ppl ppl…. those smokers are trying to relax la.
they got their own ways of DYING…
we should be happy for them, cuz they know where to burn the money, and… must be happy for their future funeral.
(oh, by the way, the “we” was actually refering to INSURANCE companies… haha…. cuz if they got cancer due to smoking… haha… NO COMPANIES WILL PAY Them… unless they die… =p)… i’m juz kidding
April 15th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
jesca : you know? someone used to tell me this.
“tak makan rokok, otak tak jalan”
loong :smoke to relax? then they BODOH as bodoh as BODOWI. sry. i hate smokers as much as i hate sporeans/penangitis.

As much as working for BAT will give a person cancer (*may it be from 2nd hand smoke or even first hand smoking*), working for BAT is really good…
Especially for accounting/finance background students, coz their training programme is really top rate…
just arguing the other side of the coin here…
April 16th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
tokmoh : eh, tat little only ah? goodness. at least enough for a McD buffet ramadhan.
fuel price wont turun wan la. they intro RON95 w/o subsidy at 1.92
sha : dude, i know that they have one of the best mgmt training regimes out there. i’m just being mean to them.

Drinking green tea is said to be able to undo the damage done by smokers. Sometime before I read an article before about the Asian paradox: there are more Asian smokers than American and European smokers, but there’s less death by smoking diseases and some hypothesize it could be due to drinking green tea, yohohoho.
So if those interested to work in BAT, have to become a green tea addict lor, yohohohoho.
Kevin: McD buffet Ramadhan is RM24.90 right? Sigh……last time it was much less, forgot edi, RM16++? lolololol
Really funny lar how they think RON99 is ‘rich man’s fuel’, dumbo. They shud kekalkan RON97
April 16th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
too much smoke got into his head. Can’t blame him.. Smokes for a living.. Sounds ideal to some of my friends..
April 16th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Sigh…..it’s better not to work for all these tobacco companies lah….
April 16th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
tokmoh : i acknowledge that green tea has its benefits. apparently helps slimming too. yet again, obesity in asian countries is at an alarming rate. lol…at least G.Tea replaces nicotine patches!
yea it used to be less than RM20 per head. what you expect less from the govt? RON 99 as though the rich will buy. they will also cash in on RON 95. its like V-power. not many using.
grace : who wanna work for idiots that help ppl kill ppl?
April 16th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Hate smokers…SAY NO TO THEI JOBS…..anyway….i dont encourage ppl to smoke..how can i work for them right??muahahahaha

April 17th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
wait a minute.. they giving out free ciggies huh ?!? could it their way of trying to encourage u to smoke then when u die they dun have to pany ur pencen ?!? damm sinister idea man…
but not worth it lah.. get 3 packs of 20s FOC but get higher risk of lung cancer due to 2nd hand smoke…
April 18th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
gerald : omg, i’m not that sensitive. i am just appalled.
jesca : is it? goodness.
lizzie : manglish la you.

April 20th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

i am on purpose =)
i suppose that those who hate smokers must not work with BAT…
BAT= kelawar.
May 26th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
just stumbled upon this site and i must say i am quite shocked that BAT would put a person like that on the booth. Did you get his name?
May 30th, 2008 at 1:38 am
unfortunately not. i guess i was too appalled by the fact he threw me back that question.
he was around 5′7″, fair, chinese, spiky hair, non glasses, not fat not thin.
June 2nd, 2008 at 12:42 am
Haha, thanks. I’m actually working in BAT now as a management trainee and was helping out on one of those days. Really shocked that someone with such low general knowledge was left helming the booth. (though I still do not know who it was) Thanks for your feedback though.
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:43 pm
no worries. to give him the benefit of doubt, i think that he perhaps wasn’t focuing on what i was asking anyhow.
mgmt trainee? cool. you know Cheah Zhi Liang?
