:: The One with Bukit Tagar ::

This week I was invited along to the Bukit Tagar Sanitary Landfill which is situation along the NSE, exiting at the Bukit Tagar/Batang Berjuntai exit.

[Warning : This is a simplified technical post to suit the majority of my readers]

This brainchild of KUB Malaysia and BERJAYA Group is situated in the middle of an oil palm plantation and is roughly 50 km from Kuala Lumpur.  It serves as a waste management solution for the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur for a design life of 40 years.

Now most of you most be wondering, what is a landfill?

A landfill is a site for disposal of waste materials by burial means.  Waste/Refuse we produced are buried at these sites and biodegraded for a period of time.

The Bukit Tagar Sanitary Landfill is one of the premier landfill in the region, being a Level IV landfill that proudly manages to treat raw leachate (toxic liquid that drains ‘leaches’ from landfills) to comply with the Standard B requirements via a complex treatment system that comprises of holding ponds, sequential batch reactor lagoons, dissolved air flotation tank, fragmitis plant reed beds and a “zero-discharge” policy.

Now who says Malaysia Tak Boleh?
