:: The One with Tapes! ::
Again, something broke. I dont recall damaging this. That’s the damned thing. Argh.

It’s the laptop adaptor cable and it looks like it was rolled over by a car of some sort. Visited the nearby HP store to enquire on a replacement only to find it costs a whopping RM290. Yeap, my jaw dropped when the fatso told me.
Again, I’m not ready to part with that amount so this is gonna be another “How To” thingy.

Step #1:
Get your hands on some electrical wiring tape or even better, insulation tapes which can be purchased from your trusted hardware shop or in my case, Home Fix in 1-Utama/ACE Hardware (Ikano/MidValley) for less than RM5.
Step #2 :
Make sure the power supply is off (nasty surprise if it “shorts”).
The two connecting parts of the wiring should be properly connected/wired. If required cut it off and reconnect them. In this case, the inner wiring looks different and I rather not chance cutting them to rewire.
Cut a length of insulation tape, around 2″-4″ depending on the subject’s diameter. Tape the joint at an angle and make sure ia dililit dengan baik.

Yea, its fugly. But for something MUCH less than RM 290, it will do for the time being.

kitkat : nah, i think i will go get the cable off ebay or lelong. i refuse to pay that amount of money the crooks in HP/dealers.
gerald : lol, built quality of HP is excellent. and this damage is human error, nothing to do with HP. its the pricing of the darn cable that i’m grousing bout.
guess for a premium product you have to premium price eh?

Happened to my dad’s Acer laptop adaptor too, it’s kinda scary when sparks flew if u twist it around a bit!!
I’m not sure how much he had to pay for it… but I think Acer is of lower brand value than HP

tokmoh : i think all lappie accessories are price quite near to one another. think i will try looking for one in lowyat at those old computer shops.

tokmoh : You actually had sparks shooting out of the cable? I had fire coming out from my old desktop monitor, it was a small flame, then it died, soon smoke started coming out of the monitor. lol. I don’t think anyone is able to DIY it unless he has some advance electrical knowledge.
Kev : Normally big companies would charge those kind of prices for complementary items. I enquired once about a handphone-2-pc wire for my old Nokia 6220, and the price was a whopping RM200. Yes RM200 for just a puny wire. However, those parts should cost a lot too since they are not manufactured in mass quantities. Normally they are sold as a set with the main product.
